  • Beginner program for swimmers with little or no water confidence.

COURAGE

  • Developing water confidence
  • Face in water
  • Aided jumping into water
  • Back float with assistance
  • Torpedo with assistance

ACTIVE 1

  • Unaided water entry
  • Kicking with face in water
  • Propel through water up to five metres
  • Torpedo kick on back with correct technique
  • Swim backstroke for 10 metres with correct technique
  • Scull on back for 10 metres with correct technique
  • Swim freestyle kick with correct technique
  • Demonstrate basic freestyle arms at the wall & then with breathing
  • Demonstrate basic freestyle arms & breathing with board
  • Enter into deep water and get back to the side of the pool

ACTIVE 2

  • Unaided safety skills
  • Swim 10m freestyle with correct technique
  • Swim 10m backstroke with correct technique
  • Competent breathing technique
  • Advanced water awareness
  • Demonstrate basic breaststroke kick
  • Enter and swim in deep water confidently
  • Demonstrate basic beginner dive, seated or in crouch position

ACTIVE 3

  • Swim 25m freestyle with correct technique
  • Swim backstroke 25m with ease and enjoyment
  • Demonstrate basic breaststroke with kick and pull
  • Demonstrate basic survival backstroke with correct technique
  • Demonstrate basic dolphin kick
  • Demonstrate basic crouch dive

 

Swim and Survive Program levels and objectives are based on the Royal Life Saving Society Program Pathway

Wonder, Courage and Active have been chosen as the Swim and Survive program titles to reflect the hopes and aspirations of children and families as they embark on a lifetime of fun and safety in the water.

Each program is structured into skill strands that ensure a balanced, comprehensive instructional approach to a child's aquatic education.

Wonder - A water familiarisation program for parents and their children aged 6 to 36 months.

Courage - A program that builds water confidence for preschool aged children between the ages of 3-5 years.

Active - A swimming and water safety program for school aged children between the ages of 5-14 years.
